Bonjour les blogueurs!

So for my first "official" post I've decided to talk about a book i've recently been reading/drooling over. It's by the fabulous Dita Von Teese!  So basically, as you can see by the picture above there are two sides of this book. One side is all things burlesque, and the other side is fetish.

I will start with the Burlesque side first. This side of the book pretty much gives you the low down on Miss Dita Von Teese (real name Heather Sweet). It starts off giving you everything from her natural hair colour, to her bust size (a very important thing to know hehe) I prefer this side more then the Fetish side, because it explains how she became Dita Von Teese, how she was introduced to garter belts, and burlesque and you can tell she just has a major love for all things glamour. It also explains how she got her name, which is actually based on a typo. When reading you can tell that she really knows her stuff about the history of burlesque, talking about the infamous Billy Minksy and Sally Rand. She even goes as far as to explain the inspiration for her shows, costume preparation, her  music she uses in her shows, and some old fashion words used in the burlesque world! And if youre like me and utterly adore her classic style, she teaches you her make up tricks & manicure tips!

Now, The Fetish side is basically about, you guessed it, Fetish! Unfortunately, as this is not my favourite side, it will not get such an exciting review as the first side hehe. The fetish side pretty much explains how fetish began, some of the most famous fetish models, aka Bettie Paige. She also explains how she adds some fetish into her burlesque shows like high heels, corsets and seamed stockings. She reveals her favourite types of fetishes also, and how she loves the oldie but still a goodie "damsel in distress fetish". This side is also quite educational with Dita going on to talk about seamed stockings with a diagram showing you the various parts and names of the stockings. The part that I do like on this section is the Bettie Paige story "Bettie Paige: Not the girl next door." Being a huge Bettie Paige fan, I thought the story of Fetish in her time, and being a fetish model and the history was quite fasinating. Another part of this side that I did actually like, was Dita in Playboy! Now you might not believe this but I am actually a HUGE playboy fan! Dita goes on to write about how Bettie Paige was in Playboy, then goes on to tell her own story, stating that she was turned down by Playboy, so many times for reasons such as "You're not what Playboy stands for, youre not the girl next door" or "People have already seen you naked." In the end though, she prevailed being on the cover of Playboy in December 2002, and their attempts to make her look more "normal" didn't suceed, as she looked like her usual gorgeous self. Next she goes on to talk about corsets, the history and where she believes is the best places in the world, to get them, not just the USA but the world! If you're the fetish type, you'll love this side.

I found the book to be very well written, and amazingly stunning visually. Her photos are always immaculate, as is she. Buy it, if not for the writting but just for the photos! It's glamour and decadance, and a feast for the eyes and mind! Book is called Fetish/ Burlesque the art of the Teese, by Dita Von Teese with Bronwyn Garrity.

Régalez-vous ...
